HETHEL, England — The special-edition Lotus Clark Type 25 Elise SC was initially limited to 25 cars for the U.K. and the Republic of Ireland, but now Lotus has decided to produce another 25 cars for the mainland European market.
The vehicle honors Jim Clark, the legendary Scottish F1 driver and winner of the Indianapolis 500. Clark was killed on April 7, 1968, in a Formula 2 race at the Hockenheim circuit in Germany.
Lotus has decorated the exterior in British Racing Green with a yellow stripe down the center, and a removable hardtop comes standard on the vehicle. Lotus sport wheels in black and silver help finish of the look of this feisty Elise. The cabin is inspired by older Team Lotus Formula 1 cars, with black leather sport seats trimmed in red leather and a retro wooden shift knob.
The Elise SC is the most powerful production Elise ever, Lotus says. Its supercharged 1.8-liter engine helps the car sprint to 60 mph in less than 4.6 seconds and top out at 148 mph.
Pricing for the vehicle starts at the equivalent of $78,408 in Germany and gets as steep as $106,076 in Holland.
What this means to you: Lotus gives collectors another chance to buy this special-edition sporty Elise. — Mike Lysaght, Correspondent
