ASUS, typically known for its low-priced laptops, launched its new P552w smartphone last Friday. The P552w is a Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional-powered smartphone, and the first such to use the finger friendly Glide user interface that ASUS developed. The P552w greatly resembles HTC's original Touch smartphone, which arguably started the rush towards finger friendly Windows Mobile smartphones with its TouchFLO user interface.
The P552w packs a fair amount of power under the hood, thanks to a 624Mhz processor, 256MB of internal memory, and 128MB of RAM. Tri-band GSM (900/1800/1900MHz) support and UMTS 2100MHz support, with HSDPA for fast data transfers, is also on board. WiFi supplements the HSDPA data, and Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR offers speedy short-range connections.
The ASUS P552w packs an 1100mAh battery and a built-in GPS receiver. Its 2 megapixel camera also records video, and a microSD card slot offers the option of extra storage space.
ASUS has yet to announce pricing and availability information for its P552w.
